SAMPLE
Driver Education PCA Rules
- Participants must be at least 18 years of age, must have a valid driver's license, and be a PCA member or affiliate. A current driver's license and PCA membership card must be shown at registration.
- Only Porsches can be driven on the track.
- Drivers must have completed registration and be through the tech line PRIOR to the driver's and instructor's meetings (by approximately 8:15 am).
- Participants must wear rubber soled, natural uppers shoes, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt (natural, not synthetic fibers), or wear an approved fire resistant driving suit. Red or yellow clothing may not be worn at flagging stations.
- A Snell 95 or newer helmet is required. Limited loaners are available.
- Pets are not allowed at Lime Rock, and strongly discouraged (must be leashed at all times) at NHIS.
- Non-participants are not permitted in either student or instructor cars. Non-participants under the age of 18 are allowed only in spectator areas. Instructors riding in student cars and students riding in instructor cars for instructional purposes are permitted. No student may ride with another student.
- On a space-available basis, non-drivers may participate in the Track Sampler program for a fee of $25.00 (to charity). These students will be given an instructional session with a NCR instructor at reduced speeds in a lower run group. They will be encouraged to participate in all aspects of the DE program, including all classroom sessions and flagging responsibilities. Participation is limited to one session per track, per individual.
- A Pre-tech form completely filled out and signed in advance of the event is required. Use of the NCR form is strongly encouraged. The Tech form must be completed within two weeks prior to the event by a PCA authorized tech inspector (list of local inspectors on the website, this service is free to PCA members).
- Fire extinguishers are mandatory for all run groups and must be securely fastened, metal to metal (minimum 2.5 pound, with two strap metal bracket recommended) within reach of the driver. This requirement is waived for first time participants for one event only
- Street tires must have a minimum tread depth of 2/32 completely around at least 2 grooves (excluding wear bars). R-rated tires and slicks must have visible tread indicators around the full circumference.
- R-rated track tires are not recommended for novice drivers.
- All open top cars (including targas) must run with tops installed or up, unless arm restraints are used by each occupant. All sunroofs must be closed or entirely removed while on track (arm restraints required if sunroof is removed).
- At NHIS events all Cabriolets must have a roll bar installed, with the following exceptions: Targas, 914s, Boxsters and 996 cabriolets are acceptable as delivered from the factory.
- Lime Rock Park will enforce new rules (2002) which require all cabriolets to have a roll bar that is fixed and visible at all times (not pop up) plus allows the driver to pass the "broomstick rule" (top of helmet under a line drawn from the top of the windshield to the top of the bar). Boxsters and 996's will be allowed to run with hardtops in place instead of meeting the rollbar and broomstick rules. Please see the attached addendum from LRP.
- Lime Rock and NHIS will be enforcing sound limits at their tracks. You will be expelled from the event after your second offense during any given day. Lime Rock's limit is 89 decibels and NHIS's is 99 decibels (both are the same as 2001). Unmodified (stock street) cars should have no problems meeting the limits. (Due to differences in acoustics at each track the net sound level is essentially equivalent between NHIS and LRP.)
- Driver's side windows must be fully down (rain or shine), passenger side optional (fully up or down). Window nets are not allowed.
- Students should expect that their instructor will drive their car for several laps at each event.
- Passengers (students in an instructor's car or instructors in a student's car) must have available, and wear, an equivalent restraint system (belts/harnesses and seats) to what is being worn by the driver.
- All participants must obey all passing rules set forth in the driver's meeting.
- There is a mandatory Black Flag pit stop for all spins or 2 (or more) wheels-off. Two Black Flags for these or other driving infractions in a day are grounds for expulsion from the event. Flagging assignments must still be fulfilled.
- No illegal drugs are allowed and no alcoholic beverages may be consumed by anyone (participant or guest) during the event.
- NCR runs DE events in the rain and cold weather. No refunds for an event cancelled after cars have been on the track, or for participants who do not come to the track when an event is not started. Partial refunds may be available to those who come to the track when an event is not started/cancelled.
Please pass along these safety issues to all members of your club.
Convertibles - For safety reasons, all convertibles (Boxster, Cabrio, Miata, Z3, Corvette, etc.) are required to have a roll bar that meets the following two criteria in order to be eligible to run during any event at Lime Rock Park: 1) The roll bar must be in a fixed position and visible at all times. This means that roll bars which are designed to automatically deploy are not acceptable unless they are in the full upright and locked position at all times. 2) The roll bar must allow the driver to pass the "broomstick" test which means that the top of the drivers helmet must be below the line from the top of the roll bar to the top of the windshield. There are aftermarket roll bars and/or seats which can be used to help meet these requirements. As with any car, if your convertible meets these standards it is welcome to participate.
Sound Restrictions - The allowable decibel limit this season will be the same as they have been since 1959. However, increasingly creative attempts to circumvent the sound restrictions will require us to be slightly more vigilant in our enforcement. Accordingly, we have now adopted a two-strikes and your out policy which is included in the contract as follows: "Any vehicle found to be violating the dB limits will not be allowed to operate on LRA grounds. Any vehicle that is determined by LRP Staff to be exceeding the above referenced decibel limits will be immediately black flagged and removed from the track. A vehicle which has been black flagged may return to the track, provided that sufficient modifications have been made to allow the vehicle to meet the stated sound restriction. Any vehicle which receives two (2) black flags as the result of sound violations in a single day, will not be allowed on the track for the remainder of the EVENT". Again, the sound limit has not changed. Please be sure to inform all participants to help ensure everyone is able to enjoy their time at the track. If you have any further questions on the sound restrictions, please contact the track office directly.
