June 2005

Each month, Panorama magazine brings you the best from the world
of Porsche. Races, vintage car shows, technical articles, we cover it all!

At Panorama, we never have room for all the pictures we'd like to
share with our readers. Here are some photos that just wouldn't fit
into the magazine this month.

When we put our June issue to bed, we didn't have room for the story on the American Le Mans Race at Road Atlanta, nor the debut of the 911 GT3 Cup Challenge. Look for that in the July issue, but in the meantime, we preview some of Leonard Turner's photography from that historic race weekend, starting with the PCA-dominated GT3 Cup happenings.

We refer you to the magazine for even more articles. How do you get your copy? Join PCA, Porsche Panorama is a prime benefit of membership!

Porsche Motorsport boss Uwe Brettel is the force behind the inauguration of a single-make championship for amateur drivers of 911 GT3 Cup cars.

Twenty-seven pristine Cup cars rolled off at Road Atlanta; unfortunately, not all of them were pristine at the end. Note the Cayenne pace car moving into position in the background.

Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas came all the way from the back of the pack to take lead with two laps to go, only to be black-flagged and relegated to second place.

Tense moment in Alex Job's pits as Bernhard fights for the win. Contact with the winning Panoz as Bernard executed a late race pass drew the penalty that cost the team the race.

Flying Lizard, who finished fourth and eighth in GT2, experience frenetic action with both cars in the pits simultaneously.

Of the 27 drivers on the grid at Atlanta, 20 were PCA members who demonstrated plenty of Club Racing honed ability.

"It was my race and he took away," said Robin Liddell when Max Papis pushed the Porsche off the track. Papis was penalized and fined, but Liddell lost his chance at victory.

Brent Martini earned his top spot in the rankings after a dual with Alfred Renauer that involved eight lead changes over the course of 26 laps.

PCA members visiting the Porscheplatz corral were invited to take a lap of the track between the Speed World Challenge and the headlining American Le Mans Series race.

Some teams have more to do than others. A Maserati mechanic rests his eyes for a moment.

Check out the June issue for the first photos of the 2006 Cayman S and the results of PCA's 2005 Club Race at Sebring. Join Prescott Kelly for a Carrera 2 Two for the Road journey to Justin Vineyards in Paso Robles, California, and read Bill Oursler's feature on the 911 GT1, Porsche's last prototype racer before the upcoming LMP2 car. Bob Gagnon and Bill Gregory review brake system basics and modifications, illustrated with a guide for improving the brakes of the Porsche 964. It's all great reading and is on the way to your mailbox now.
