May 2006

Each month, Panorama magazine brings you the best from the world
of Porsche. Races, vintage car shows, technical articles, we cover it all!

At Panorama, we never have room for all the pictures we'd like to
share with our readers. Here are some photos that just wouldn't fit
into the magazine this month.

Featured in the May issue is the introduction of the new 997-based GT3, which was presented to the international press at a meeting in Verona, Italy. For this month's gallery we present more photos from staff photographer Leonard Turner's shoot in Italy.

We refer you to the magazine for even more articles. How do you get your copy? Join PCA, Porsche Panorama is a prime benefit of membership!

Dramatically changed face of the 997 GT3 includes aggressively redesigned air intakes and a GT2-like slot just below the hood that exhausts radiator air and helps with aerodynamics.

Sophisticated lightening of internal engine components result in a red line of 8400 rpm, 200 rpm higher than the previous GT3.

The steering wheel, handbrake lever and shifter for the six-speed transmission in the GT3 are all covered with suede-like Alcantera material.

The stylized GT3 wheel reveals the optional PCCB fade-free brakes which save almost 40 pounds of unsprung weight.

Classic 911 profile of the GT3 is augmented with new 19-inch wheels which will be shared with the 911 Turbo and a revised rear wing which contributes to the slick aerodynamics (coefficient of drag for the new car is 0.29).

The two slots below the rear lights serve primarily to remove heat from the fender mounted exhaust systems.

The aggressive new rear spoiler has an adjustable upper horizontal plane.

The 3.6-liter normally-aspirated engine for the GT3 produces an amazing 415 horsepower at 7600 rpm.

Large adjustable wing, engine air scoops on the rear deck, slots on both sides of the rear for exhaust cooling and the center mounted dual exhaust tips are functional and visual signatures of the new GT3.
