Boise's history and proximity to some of the most choice scenery in the West offers numerous options for day trips or just poking around town. Check your maps. You will be within a few hours of the Sawtooth Mountains, the White Cloud Mountains, Sun Valley, Hells Canyon. Within an hour you could be Jet boating on the Snake River, kayaking or white water rafting. You are minutes away from tubing down the Boise River, or fly fishing for trout in the middle of downtown Boise. It is a 20 minute drive to the World's Center for Birds of Prey, the organization responsible for the restoration of the Peregrine Falcon. It is now at the forefront of efforts to save the California Condor. Tour the Old Penitentiary and the Boise Botanical Gardens. Take a horseback ride up Bogus Basin for a hearty cowboy-style chuckwagon dinner. Take the family for a ride on the Boise Tour Train, or the whole family can have a great time at the Discovery Center. Watch trout and salmon from below ground level at the MK Nature Center. Walk, rent bikes or in-line skates and 25 miles of greenbelt along the Boise River beckons you. Boise features three skateboard parks for the young and young at heart. Les Bois Park has thoroughbred and quarterhorse racing three times a week with clubhouse or grandstand seating. If the Boise Hawks are in town, there is plenty of fun in store for the whole family with professional baseball and quality entertainment. The Boise Shakespeare Festival brings the Bard to an outdoor setting. Visit the Basque Museum and learn more about the history and culture of this group from the Pyrennes Mountains bordering Spain and France.Plan an extra week...or two...you will find plenty to keep your entire family happy.
