04/19/2014 - Peachstate PCA Car Control Clinic/Test & Tune
AutoCross , PST
Hmm, this street looks slippery. Hmm, the back end of my car is trying to be in front. I want to have better control of my car and be a more confident driver. I’m interested in autocross or track driving. Have any of these phrases passed through your mind at one point or another? Do you sometimes think “I wonder what would happen if I slammed on the brakes and turned my steering wheel hard at the same time?” Probably not, but we still have a fun and safe educational treat for you. Peachstate PCA is holding a Car Control Clinic and Autocross Turn and Tune on April 19th at Atlanta Motor Speedway in beautiful Hampton, GA. Here’s a link to the location for those that might not be familiar: http://www.atlantamotorspeedway.com/fanzone/directions/. We’ll use the Dale Earnhardt lot adjacent to the Earnhardt grandstands. All makes and models are welcome. Heck, bring the Suburban! The morning session will focus on improving car control in street situations. Experienced instructors from the Porsche Club and the Sports Car Club of America will provide in and out of car instruction on these techniques: skid/spin recovery, braking, obstacle avoidance, and car balance. Moms and Dads, this is a superb event to teach yourself and your teen driver some basic car control you don’t get in most driver education curriculums. In the afternoon, we’ll transition into a “turn and tune” opportunity so drivers can try different techniques through a series of turns. Timing gear will record your time after each run, allowing you to make minor adjustments and see the results instantly. For those interested in autocross or track driving, the turn and tune provides a chance to push yourself and your car and practice “at the limit” driving techniques in a controlled environment. Gates and sign in will open at 8:00AM, with group assignments and set up to follow. At 8:45, we’ll have an absolutely MANDATORY safety meeting. Class sessions comprising element chalk talk and practice will follow immediately. During lunch between 1:00PM and 2:00PM, we’ll have a presentation on autocross, and then the turn and tune practice sessions will commence at 2:15PM and go on until we can’t stand it anymore. The cost for the whole day is $45; for just the afternoon turn and tune $25. If you come for the whole day, plan on bringing a chair and a lunch. Everyone should have water and anything else you need to be comfortable in an outdoor environment. No helmet is required for the morning session, and we have a few loaner helmets available for the afternoon session. We suggest bringing a head sock if you are using a loaner helmet. Registration will open here www.clubregistration.net on March 19th. After creating your account, you can search for the event under our club name and proceed with registration. If you are having problems creating the account or registering for the event, your first stop should be the Club Registration administrator. If he can’t solve your problem, then contact me at sbmackie32@gmail.com. We will take registration and payment on-site no later then 8:30AM; please bring a check made out to Peachstate PCA or correct cash. Yours in car control, Scott MacKie Peachstate Autocross Adjutant

05/10/2014 - Inaugural "Grand Prix of Indianapolis" IndyCar race on the IMS Road Course
Multi-Event , CIN
Inaugural “Grand Prix of Indianapolis” IndyCar race Saturday, May 10 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Central Indiana Region has purchased a block of 100 premium reserved seat race tickets for this first ever IndyCar race on the newly reconfigured IMS F1 Road Course. These seats are high up in Stand H in our old Indianapolis Formula One block we had for eight years. “Best seats in the house, don’t ever change them!” They are on sale for their $60 face value at: www.clubregistration.net. Search for “Central Indiana”. These seats are located at the end of the Main Straight, directly above Road Course Turn 1, where all the braking and jockeying for position is done. We will be able to see all of the Main Straight, the cars coming out of the Pits, six Road Course turns and a good portion of the newly extended Back Straight plus a huge Jumbotron right in front of us to see all the action on other parts of the road course. You can’t find better seats! CIR may have a Hospitality Suite in the IMS Plaza Hospitality Village directly behind the Tower Pagoda like the one we have had for the past two Indy Rolex GRAND-AM races. These beautiful suites can hold up to 300 guests, is air conditioned, has six big-screen TV’s broadcasting live racing action throughout the day and has it own private restrooms. Remember this race will be run rain or shine and our suite may just be the place to be if it rains and it rains in May in Indiana. We are presently looking for Title Sponsors to help defray the $3,000 cost of this suite. The race will be run on Saturday afternoon with Practice on Thursday (free) and Qualifications on Friday ($20) and it will be the opening event for the Month of May at Indy, culminating with the Indy 500 on May 25. Three support races just announced for Saturday morning: 9 AM Formula 2000, 10 AM Pro Mazda, 11 AM Indy Lights and 3:30 PM IndyCar Race, plus IMS "Celebration of Automobiles" Car Show all day on the Pagoda Plaza. 4 races plus an incredible car show all for just $60 at IMS! We may again have a nice catered lunch around noon in the PCA Suite with refreshments and munchies throughout the day. Plans are still in the works and events will be dependent on acquiring sponsors. The IndyCar Road Course Chassis Race Cars (different than Oval cars) run clockwise around the course, opposite of the 500, and will be heading directly towards us for the start! It doesn’t get more exciting than this! You can check out our seats on IMS’s 3D Model at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com. Limit of eight tickets per member. PCA Suite/Lunch also available at www.clubregistration.net. Details at: www.cirpca.org or Rob Fike at 317-727-9333. Stay tuned and see you at Indy!
