Join the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge regions of the Porsche Club of America for an exciting getaway into the wild and wonderful mountains of West Virginia. This outing will be filled with fun driving roads, beautiful scenery, science, history, trains, great food, camaraderie, free time to relax or check out other area attractions, and of course, lots of Porsches! Shenandoah’s own Jim Condon, a radio astronomer with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), will be our guide as we explore the Green Bank Observatory. 

Our room block is filling up quickly, so please make your lodging reservations with Snowshoe Resort at (877) 441-4386 as soon as possible to take advantage of the discounted group rate. Saturday, August 8

  • Scenic drive to the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope – Groups will start from the Mountainside Grille near Crozet (with pick up points in Churchville and Monterey) and Roanoke
  • Visit to the Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the world’s largest moving structure on land (Lunch; Tour of control room, electronics lab, and other areas of interest; Bus ride down to see the GBT; Free time to explore the Science Center and look at early radio telescopes)
  • Dinner at the Brazen Head Inn
  • Stay overnight at Snowshoe Resort

Sunday, August 9

  • Breakfast at Snowshoe’s Raven Grille
  • Ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad with boxed lunch at Whittaker Station
  • Fun Run, relax, or do your own thing in the afternoon
  • Dinner at The Junction Restaurant & Saloon
  • Stay overnight at Snowshoe Resort

Monday, August 10

  • Breakfast at The Junction Restaurant & Saloon
  • Scenic drive to The Greenbrier Resort (Group tour of “The Bunker” – a former emergency Cold War fallout shelter and top secret U.S. government relocation facility for Congress, Lunch)
  • Continue on your own to explore the area or return home
