Aside from tires, the most important safety feature on a vehicle is its brakes. On a Porsche, it’s easy to take them for granted because they’re regarded as among the best. But they require maintenance too, just like any other wear parts — and it isn’t cheap.

With a Cayenne S, the vehicle in question in this video, you can wait to replace your brakes until the brake-pad sensors trigger a warning light in the gauge cluster. Or you can inspect them yourself and anticipate the costly service further in advance.

Head below to learn how to inspect your brakes. If you want to see an actual brake disc and pad replacement, head over to PCA’s Facebook page and Like the post. If we garner enough Likes, then we’ll capture a brake replacement on video. Enjoy!
