Porsche marketing and sales chief talks about plug-in hybrids and his commute

It is becoming increasingly clear that there are two  initiatives at Porsche that have shaped the company for the past two decades and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future: Four-door vehicles and hybrid-electric powertrains. It should come as no surprise, then, that Porsche’s chief of sales and marketing, Bernhard Maier, commutes to work in a Cayenne S E-Hybrid, Automotive News reports.

Maier sat down with the publication for a question-and-answer session, talking about his 56-mile round-trip daily commute to work in a Cayenne S E-Hybrid (in electric mode nearly the whole time) and his company's plug-in hybrids. From Maier’s comments, one also can glean some interesting differences between the car-buying habits of mature versus “fast-growing” markets, explaining the rationale behind Cayenne and Panamera sales dominance over Porsche sports cars in China, the Middle East, and other developing countries.
