Book: Celebrating the founding of Canada West region and 50 years of the Porsche 911

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

For two decades, Porsche Club of America regions existed only in the United States. Despite the club's namesake, there were no regions in Canada, or anywhere else in North America. That all changed in 1975 when Canada West Region (CWR) was founded by Canadian PCA member John Macfarlane with help from Bill Botham and Jim Axleson. The region contained members in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta until Polar (Edmonton), Vancouver Island, Wild Rose (Calgary), and BC Interior regions were spun off of CWR.

A new book, Porsche Club of America — Canada West Region: Celebrating 40 Years of PCA Membership by CWR member David Oberman, details the forming of Canada West and profiles 50 PCA member 911s from the region.

About the Book

Almost 40 years ago the Canada West Region was granted its charter. It was the first Porsche Club of America region to be formed outside the US. In the book's foreword, John Macfarlane, the founding member of the Canada West Region and its first president, tells the story of this landmark event in Porsche Club of America history.

With everyone talking about 2013 being a celebration of 50 Years of the Porsche 911, we wanted the book to contain 50 Porsches owned by our local club members. The 50 cars in this book are from every one of those five decades of Porsche 911 production — truly an amazing collection of automobiles owned by a group of very fine people that really like their Porsches. This large landscape (13" x 11") book contains over 200 large photos and 110 pages.

The photographs were taken at a location 3,000 feet up on Cypress Mountain from mid-September to mid-October 2013 as the weather and schedules permitted. All of the members involved in the photo sessions enjoyed the experience and that great twisty drive up and down the mountain was enjoyed by all of us driving Porsches!
