Porsche to unveil new 911 Targa at Detroit Auto Show

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Porsche has announced that it will debut a new 911 Targa at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday (and teased us with a video of a giant retractable roof), and if you're not there to see it in person, the automaker has you covered: The unveiling will be streamed live on Porsche's website.

Officially, no images of the 2015 Targa have been released. But leaked images of the new, open-air 911 have spread around the Internet showing us that it will forgo the sliding glass roof of the 993-, 996-, and 997-generation cars in favor of a more traditional "Targa bar," movable roof, and wraparound rear window, as Porsche describes it. The design echos the first 911 Targa of 1965, the style of which was retained through 1994 with the 964-generation 911 Targa.

Porsche says the 991-generation Targa features "innovative technical solutions that make it a true modern classic," which we'll explain in detail as soon as more information is released.

If you have some spare time on Monday, or just love Targas, be sure to visit Porsche's website at 11:45 AM EST to watch the unveiling live.
