2017 911 Carrera and Carrera S first drive: live updates [w/video]

Porsche Panorama Editor Pete Stout is in Spain to drive the new 991-2-generation 911 Carrera and Carrera S for the first time. The new, turbocharged 3.0-liter flat sixes mark the largest departure from 911 tradition since Porsche switched from air-cooled to water-cooled flat sixes, threatening the character of the 911 that enthusiasts love. Find out if that's the case based off of Pete's initial impressions, and go ahead and ask him questions on PCA's Facebook page, which he'll attempt to answer on location. "Canary Islands hillclimb in the new 991-2, anyone?" In the video below, Panorama Editor Pete Stout drives the base 911 Carrera with AutoWeb Editor in Chief/Chief Analyst Michael Harley. It gives a good sense of the increased acceleration due to the twin-turbo six's 331 pound-feet of torque, which plateaus from 1,700-5,000 rpm. The word "fun" can be heard a few times between laps.
