PCNA chief says Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI scheduled for 2018

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

In the June 2016 issue of Porsche Panorama, Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Klaus Zellmer says, “The Rennsport Reunion will be in 2018, the next one.”

When asked if it will take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, he replies, “We don’t know yet.”

The first Rennsport Reunion was held in 2001 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, followed by the second and third at Daytona International Speedway in 2004 and 2007. The fourth and fifth Rennsports took place at Laguna Seca in 2011 and 2015, both of which attracted 40,000+ spectators.

Whether the giant festival will take place at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, for the third time in a row, is up in the air, but we expect Porsche to pick a location that can handle a massive crowd.

One more bit of information Zellmer let slip has us excited for 2018 already: “Yeah, we decided we’ll do it. And that’s 70 years of Porsche. 1948. We are going to use that for a big thing. Certainly.”

[Update: A previous version of this article mistakenly said the second Rennsport Reunion was at Watkins Glen International. The article has since been corrected.]
