From the "Table of 12" to "Porsche Club of America" — 61 Years and 75,000 Households Strong

COLUMBIA, MARYLAND — What started out way back in 1955 as “the gripe group” at a local steakhouse in Washington, D.C. has grown in ways Porsche Club of America (PCA) founder Bill Sholar could have only imagined. On this day 61 years ago, as 12 Porsche owners gathered for dinner and discussion, they laid the plans that would pave the way for future success.

In the years since Sholar led that first meeting of the PCA, the core traditions remain the same: unparalleled passion for the Porsche marque, a spirit of camaraderie among Porsche owners, and club activities fueled by volunteer efforts. As PCA celebrates 61 years, there is one notable constant: sustained growth in club membership.  Through highs and lows in economic conditions, members have always valued their membership in the club.

“The Executive Council set a goal in 2011 to reach a membership milestone of over 75,000 Porsche households, and we are so excited to see that goal achieved this September,” says Caren Cooper, PCA National President. “This growth is due to PCA’s incomparable volunteer corps and outstanding national office team. With more than 2,000 driving events and at least that many social events each year all across North America, members are having a great time and that positivity is contagious – it attracts new members!”

Many households have more than one member active in the club – reflected in PCA’s 118,000+ total members – and many own multiple Porsches. The Porsche Club of America is the largest single-marque car club in the world. What unites the PCA’s members is their enthusiasm for their cars. Whether it’s swapping stories over a lunch, driving together on North America’s best roads, talking shop with mechanical experts, or navigating the course at an autocross, PCA membership offers an inviting community for people who are passionate about Porsches.

PCA Executive Director, Vu Nguyen, remarks, “We are thrilled to have so many Porsche owners joining the club. The excitement members have for the marque shines and the calendar of local events continues to grow. Thanks largely to our hard-working volunteers, we’ve reached this great milestone for national membership, but that small-club sense of community and camaraderie remains.”
