We published a video a while back that showed you how to inspect the brakes on your Porsche. We then shared the post on Facebook and received encouraging responses, so we decided to film the actual brake change. PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen hosts and uses his own 2006 Cayenne S to illustrate what you can expect if you decide to take on the job yourself — or perhaps want to be more knowledgable about your Porsche. (PCA recommends that only qualified Porsche technicians work on your vehicle. Replace your brakes at your own risk.)

Some things to note in addition to what's in the video:

1. Always make sure there is extra capacity in the brake fluid reservoir before you start pushing the pistons back in the calipers — otherwise you can make a huge mess if it overflows.

2. Removing the brake pad retaining pins took awhile; we learned after publishing the video that if you spray the pins with some brake cleaner and use a screwdriver to relieve some of the tension on the retaining clips, they actually will come out fairly easily with only a couple hits with a rubber mallet.
