After the airing of Season 5, Episode 10 of the Netflix series “House of Cards,” Porsche forums and chatrooms everywhere began speculating as to how a relatively rare, 911 GTS Club Coupe in its distinctive shade of Club Blau wound up in the show. No, the showrunner didn’t buy one, the answer is quite simple: The vehicle wrangler for the show called PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen, problem solved.

The director was looking for a late-model 911 in blue or silver, so Nguyen thought, why not give them a really special car, a Club Coupe to be exact? A few phone calls later and the show had access to a car owned by Washington, D.C. PCA member Terrence Judge.

“I thought it would be a cool thing to do, and so did my wife. They just needed it for a 45-second scene shot in a Baltimore parking garage — how big of a deal could it be?” said Judge. A bit bigger than anticipated.

The scene in which actress Neve Campbell has a brief conversation with another character (and hands him a gun kept in the door pocket) took about seven hours to shoot. The seven-hour rental of the car (which didn’t move) cost the producers $500.

Judge didn’t expect to hear anything else from the “House of Cards” people, but shortly after that scene was shot, they called again and pleasantly reminded him about the details of the contract requiring him to make the car available again if the plot should call for it. This time, for Episode 13, they shot the car in motion in front of a green screen, although it never actually drove anywhere (it was pulled by a special, ultra-low trailer with lighting).

“In one scene, a member of the crew noticed that the clock in the 911 didn’t match the time that it was supposed to be. They called me over to change the clock,” Judge related. “While I knew how to change it from standard to military time, I didn’t actually know how to set it. Neve Campbell was in the car and she was very cool. She explained that she used to own a 911 and couldn’t set the clock either without looking at the manual, which is what she suggested we do.”

So now you know the real story of how the PCA 60th Anniversary 911 GTS Club Coupe wound up in an ultra-popular Netflix series.
