PCA Regions give back to their communities in amazing ways. One such charitable effort includes man’s best friend! The PCA Maverick Region is supporting America Veterans by contributing funds to train service dogs for veterans and people with disabilities.

The idea to adopt Patriot PAWS as a non-profit organization for Maverick Region fundraising was presented by Don Sebert, who was introduced to the organization through his membership in another organization. Don introduced the idea to the Maverick Region Board of Directors, who embraced it wholeheartedly.

The Maverick Region participated in a fundraising event in the form of a luncheon and tour of the Patriot PAWS headquarters in Rockwall, Texas. Patriot PAWS volunteers provided a tour of the kennel complex to 200 attendees, including showing the training facility, and the home in which veterans stay during their training period prior to receiving their service dogs. More than $10,000 was raised that day and with follow up donations the total last year was over $30,000.

The mission of Patriot PAWS is to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence. Individual volunteers raise the puppies until they are old enough to begin formal training at the Patriot PAWS headquarters. It takes years to train a dog at a cost of $35,000 per dog.

Jeremy, an America Veteran, said, “Since Reckless has come to live with me, I have been able to get out and live a semi-normal life. I don’t have to constantly keep my head on a swivel because I know my wingman has my six.”

The last Maverick Region event was March 9, 2019 with future fundraising events in development for 2020. Jimmyg Gallegos, Mavericks Charity Chair, and Chantel Tennyson are continuing to coordinate the 2020 Patriot PAWS fund raising and related activity.

Every year across Porsche Club of America, members are making a difference with many heartwarming and thoughtful acts of kindness. The above is just one of those community contributions.
