transmission mounts

Vehicle Information: Model: 912; Year: 1968; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 4-cyl; Total Mileage: 150,000+;

A mechanic recommended that I replace my soft transmission mounts. Might be a good idea on a 40 yr old car, but everything is working so well that I'm hesitant. What is involved with replacement? Is the transmission removed? Is there anything else that should be investigated or replaced during this repair? How many hours of work is required?.

912 sportomatic conversion

Vehicle Information: Model: 912; Year: 1968; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1600; Total Mileage: 145000;

Would it be possible to use the VW version of a Sportomatic transmission on a 912? Could it be easier and/or cheaper than trying to fit the Porsche version. I am handicapped and it would allow me to drive the car. Thanks.

901 clutch pedal very hard

Vehicle Information: Model: 912; Year: 1966; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.4; Total Mileage: ??;

I have a 912 with a 2.4 transplant that I use for autocross. It has a 901 transmission. My only complaint about the car is that the clutch pedal is very hard to depress. The transmission was gone over a short time ago, and there is no issues with the driveability of the car other than my left leg. My left leg literally feels like jello after a short drive to work. Is there anything I can do to lighten the clutch pedal?

356B rear axle bearing gaskets?

Vehicle Information: Model: 356B; Year: 1962; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): S90, 1600, none; Total Mileage: 125000;

My outer axle bearing kits contained gaskets, but maintenenace manuals and parts catalogs show no paper gaskets. Que pasa? Are the O'rings enough to seal the bearing housings?
