Need a mechanic

We just noved to Fort Collins, CO and I am looking for a good, reputable mechanic for my 1982 911 Targa.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Steve

Keep Hoeptner or go to oil fed tensioners

I’ve read good things about Hoeptner tensioners herein.  I’ve had them since ‘92 and 20K miles since (installed by Mayo Perf in Euless TX).  I’m going to embark on an engine rebuild. I’m considering oil fed tensioners, but seems the only gain might be a little less noise, and possible slight increased value at sell time.  Are the mechanical Hoeptner tensioners a bit noisier than the stock tensioners and or the oil fed ones?  Any other concrete gains to going to oil fed Carrera style tensioners, given I’ve got Hoeptner?

Any ideas on either path appreciated.

Hershey PA Swap Meet

Is anyone attending the Swap Meet this weekend in Hershey, PA. I would like to connect with members while at the event.

Review of Porsche Classic Factory Restoration Atlanta

I am considering buying a 911SC, 996, or a 968. I'm sure it'll need some work; has anyone had experience with the Atlanta-based Porsche restoration center?

Engine detonation

im building up a nice 83 SC. The engine is stock except for PMO 40s, headers, centrifugal only distributor with a curve that fits within Porsche recommendations for earlier engines. MSD ignition.

I can’t seem to rid it of detonation at low speeds below 3000. I have to feather it in or it sounds like a bucket of bolts. I’m running Sunoco highest octane and have backed starting timing as far as 5ATDC. It makes a difference but still rattles if I get on it even a little.

1982 SC Cam tensioner upgrade

I have a pristine 1982 911 SC with 45k miles that I put less than 1 k miles of Sunday street use a year.  The valves have never been adjusted I have had  a slight oil leak from the valve covers for many years and I am considering having the valves adjusted when I have the valve cover gaskets replaced. Do I really need to upgrade the cam tensioners?  I hate fixing things that are not broken and spend an additional $3000 plus.  However I understand it could cause catastrophic engine failure.  And if so which kit would be the best one to use.
