3.0 - 3.2 rebuild Mockup Timing

Hello Chris

It's been a long time since I last emailed you in which I've lost your email address.

Well I'm finally back at it, in mockup and I'm setting the timing .....

I have #1 at Z1 1.26mm (964 cam grind) and attempting to time #4. I turn from Z1 where #1 is opening for about 270 degrees where # 1 is almost closed and #4 has just opened to 1.26mm for the intake valve stroke in overlapping TDC valve clearance with the 1st. I'm on the notch approximately 260 degrees on the crank, approximately 100 degress prior to Z1.

Upper Rebuild Only

Model: 911S, Year:1977, Mileage:100k, Type of use:Street use only
My 77 911 2.7 is right at 100k. Always runs well and cool. 11 blade fan and tensioner updates. Driven gently. No smoke, etc...I fear a head stud or two may have pulled. Money is an issue. What is risk/reward for proper rebuilding of top end only and letter lower end alone? Thanks.

runaway cold idle

Model: 911 SC, Year:1981, Mileage:143,00, Type of use:Street use only
I have the issue covered in a posting dated 11.20.2008. The reply says the 'auxillary regulator' but does not mention a fix and I don't see a match in further checking the postings. What's the fix? FYI this is a ROW car so there's no CAT if that makes a difference. Thanks,MM Koon

Leaks and modern technology

Model: Carrera, Year:1976, Mileage:130K, Type of use:Street use only
I have a 2.7 MFI engine in my Carrera and we all have been told that all Porsche from the 60s & 70s leak. With all the modern technology that is available why has not the technology of sealing material not applied to the cars from the 60s and 70s. For instance using neoprene gasket material to seal transmissions and engines where we see leak issues.

spark plug removal

Any advice to remove a stuck #6 spark plug. The engine is removed, and penatrating oil has been soaking for 2 weeks. It is unclear how long the plug has been installed.
