Trouble Starting and Loud Whine

Model: 911 SC, Year:1982, Mileage:75,000, Type of use:Street use only
I started the car today on my way home from work and it hesitated to turn over then started. I noticed a rather loud hum/whine the entire way home - very odd. The car ran fine though - no power issues at all. Any ideas? Is this the fuel pump? Thanks so much for your help!

I have a 1976 911S 2.7 engine, and I have a set of 911S grind cams for a 3.0 or 3.2L with 49 mm journals, I believe my cam housings to be 47 mm, can the housings be modified to accept these cams? Are there any drawbacks to modifications to the journals?

stripped spark plug or head

Model: 911SC, Year:83, Mileage:127000, Type of use:Street use only
Is there any reasonable way to extract the #6 spark plug (either head or plug is stripped) without removing the engine? I've heard the engine can be lowered up to 5 inches (removing only the two rear mounting bolts) without damaging other components. Is this true, and a viable solution?

I am looking to buy 1980-1984 911. What are typical engine issues that should have been resolved and that I should be aware of before buying. I am a low mileage driver (3 -5k yr) and don't need any major expenses after purchase.
