1968 912 carburetion and gasoline smell

Fuel System

Vehicle Information: Model: 912 Targa; Year: 1968; Body Type: Convertible; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1600; Total Mileage: 125000;

During driving, and after when parked in the garage, there is a strong odor of gasoline coming from the engine compartment. We can find no apparent leaks anywhere. The original Solex 40 P11-4's are on the engine. They were rebuilt about five years back (2500 miles). Any ideas where the odor could be coming from (maybe the carb gaskets). Additionally, what is your opinion on switching from the Solex's to Weber's.
