1968 912 Oil Burning Problem

Vehicle Information: Model: 912; Year: 1968; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1.6 Stock; Total Mileage: 51000;

My car is very original. I inherited it from my father. I have been doing repairs (most overdue)as needed. I had the engine overhauled because of excessive oil leaks and consumption, but stopped short of doing the rings, which was a mistake, as it still burns a fair amount of oil. I go through a quart in 350-500 miles running Kendall 20-50. What are my options? Tear it down again and do the rings? Drive it until it gets worse? If I do tear it down again I don't want to stop short and be in the same boat in another year. Should I do a big bore kit? I am mostly intersted in driveablility but obviously a couple more horses would be nice. Any ideas or advice you have would be appreciated.
