1971 911T Targa 2.2 with Alternator Issue

I have a 1971 911T Targa 2.2 with Alternator Issue.  

Alternator light goes out after engine is started but gets very slightly brighter as the engine is revved up.

Voltage at battery at about 1,000 RPM's is about 12.3-4 Volts, then goes down to 12 if the head lights are turned on.

Tried a new Voltage Regulator, same thing.  One shop recommended changing out the original Alternator with one that has a

built in VR, but I'd rather keep it all original if possible.  Does anyone know of a shop that specializes in rebuilding old, Alternators

from Porsche's and if it's worthwhile rebuilding vs. buying a new one?  Thx.
