1975 911 S Engine Rebuild

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 S; Year: 1975; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 115000;

On the right side chain cover gasket there is a triangular piece that overhangs the main flange and looks like it would just flap around. If I leave it on, it only just rests on the boss of the bearing for the tensioner support which could put a slight side load on the bearing. I plan to cut it off but the original gasket had it left on. What should I do? I assume it is for some other configuration engine. the left side gasket does not have this extra piece.
