1975 911S Erratic Idle

Fuel System

Vehicle Information: Model: 911S; Year: 1975; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 239,000;

Whether a cold start (may be a little on a cold start) or a warm start,the car idles erratically, even after it has warmed to operating temp at180F or more. I have replaced all 6 fuel injectors, fuel accumulator,fuel filter, points & steel braided original spark plug wires with allBosch parts, adjusted the points to correct dwell, set timing correctly,but still the erratic idle occurs, even surges, then vacillates from 2000to 500 or less rpms several times before finally settling at 1000 withthe throttle lever set appropriately. We're stumped, do we need a newfuel distributor? If so, will a rebuilt fuel distributor serve me well?The 911S runs well on 200-300 mile road trips, but is a difficult todrive in town with the unnerving idle problem. I would really appreciateyour guidanceon this problem,
