1976 911 Heat Exchanger / Thermal Reactors

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1976; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 88,000;

I am considering the purchase of a '76 911. The car has been converted to a custom look (Strosek conversion, and good work done). My question is this: I have been told that the car, rebuilt in California, has been fitted with the "thermal reactors". An area mechanic has told me that these need to be replaced with heat exchangers. I was wondering how urgent of a need this would be. The car (if I decide to purchase it), would only be driven 2-3 thousand miles a year with no track use. I would only buy this car (or any conversion) because the seller absolutely HAS to sell it, and is willing to let it go very inexpensively compared to what he payed just a year ago. I would plan to sell it within 1 to 2 years. Obviously I'm not looking to invest a lot more money into it beyond the purchase price. Everything else seems to be in order.
