1976 912E Rustproof Thyssen steel

Vehicle Information: Model: 912E; Year: 1976; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 128,000;

I was told that "ALL" 912E's were bulid with Thyssen steel and WILL NOT rust unless stripped to bare metal. The suspension pan, left fender, left rocker and left door on my car have rust. The side panels of the trunk also have rust. I would believe that the door, fender and rocker could have been stripped and that is what caused the rust. What would have caused the chassis to rust. I do not think my car was "fitted" with rustproof Thyssen steel... Can anyone give me good FACTS of when the Thyssen rust proofing started? Was it mid year 76? Was it for all 76 model year cars? Was it only certain models that were fitted with rust proofing? How good was this rust proofing? would it have held up after 25 years?
