1979 911 SC tach jumping and engine stops

Electrical

Vehicle Information: Year: 1979; Body Type: Targa;

My 79 SC runs great but has receintly come up with a problem. When warm, and only occasionally, the tach starts to jump around and then the engine will just stop dead as if someone turned the ignition off. I can re start soon after. I can hear slight changes in the actual engine speed but the reading on the tach seems to be graeter and more irratic that the actual engine speed. When the car is cool, everything seems to work fine. When the car is at or maybe just a little above normal operating temperature the tach starts jumping, the engine has changes in RPM then, usually the engine stops. I have let it idle for 20 minutes, and it dies. I have raced up a mountain everything working great and it dies. It has always started again as soon as I try, but I'm confused? All connections seem to be good.
