1982 911SC Alternator Replacement

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 SC; Year: 1982; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 169000;

I recently purchased a new Bosch alternator for my car. When I went to install it I noted that the alternator body wasn't as deep as the original Valeo alternator. After installing it into the fan shroud I noticed that the fan sat back further into the fan shroud. After installing the alternator fan shroud assembly into the engine I couldn't get the alternator belt to stop rubbing on the fan shroud because of the alternator sitting back further than the original. I therefore decided to install a new Valeo alternator. Turns out that the Valeo had the same problem. The only way I could get it to line up properly so the alternator belt did not rub was by putting 2 nuts on the inide of the alternator studs and then mounting it into the fan shroud. Is there some sort of spacer that should be used to alleviate this problem?
