1982 SC Targa Clutch Engagement

Transmission

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Targa; Year: 1982; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 74,000;

I recently purchased this 911 targa that had been very well taken care of by the previous owner. It has a recently replaced spring center clutch. My question is the point at which the clutch engages the drivetrain seems extremely long to me. It seems like the clutch is more than halway out (6 inches plus) before in engages the drivetrain. It feels a little akward. Especially at speed, I push the clutch all the way down and it kind of lurches into gear halway through the clutch. Is this normal? I have never owned a 915 car (had a 1969 912 prior). Can this be adjusted?
