1983 911SC CV Joint Installation

Suspension

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 SC; Year: 1983; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 104k;

I recently bought an 1983 911SC Cabriolet, my first. The previous ownerhad installed 17" wheels and, for some reason, the front suspension waslowered as far as it would go, resulting in the tires scalloping againstthe front fenders for every bump in the road. I raised the front end tospec, and then had the car realigned by good, but I think, Porscheinexperienced people. Everything was fine for a few hundred mile untilone of the rear axles dropped. All six CV joint bolts, on thetransmission end, had backed out with the last two bolts shearing. Infixing & reinstalling the axle, the parts list differentiates between theSC/SPM & SC, where the SC uses (6) M8 'cheese-hd' screws (Torqued 30 FT#)and by inference does not call for lock washers nor a 'plate' as theSC/SPM model does. When I checked the bolts after driving the car forawhile, I found that they were coming loose again. I should mentioned,when the car is at rest, the rear axles are at a slight incline, ratherthan horizontal - is this suspect? Any suggestions will be welcomed.
