1983 911SC Transmission

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 SC ; Year: 1983; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 105,000;

Last Fall, I jacked up the car by placing the jack under the cross membersupporting the transmission when I heard this ugly snap. (I've learned afew things since then - thanks to you & many others.) No damage isvisible, but I just recently started the car on jack stands and engaged1st gear. Initially the wheels rotated okay, but when I put in the clutch- a loud clunk emitted, and when I re-engaged the clutch, again anotherloud clunk, and then the wheels rotated okay. Hard to describe, but itwas almost what I would expect to feel if the pilot shaft bearing wasabout to go, because of what appears to be a lot of slop & noise beforethe wheels start to turn. Can you offer any suggestions & steps todiagnose the problem?
