1983 944 Clutch job / Torque Tube Bearings
Vehicle Information: Model(924/944): 944; Year: 1983; Engine (type, size, modifications): stock 2.5; Total Mileage: 180 k;
Well, 25 years of age and my poor heel and toe attempt at Heartland was too much for the rubber center of my clutch plate. New sachs clutch kit, new fidanza flywheel, all new bearings, etc, hoping that when done right, it'll last another 180k. My clutch kit came w/out directions, though. I a question in the archives where you mentioned 'shimming' the T.O. bearing....but cannot find this proceedure in the factory manuals. Also, is there any kind of specs on the torque tube backlash that would tell me what kind of shape my bearings are in? They seem a tad noisy, but it's hard to tell. Are they even replaceable, or just get a new/rebuilt tube?
