1984 911 Carrera 915 won't go into second

Transmission and Clutch

Vehicle Information: Model: Carrera ; Year: 1984; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 118000;

I replced all shifter parts last week with new stock parts, and it ran fantastic!, Yesterday I was shifting from 5th to 4th for a corner entry and something happened. Due to the vastly decreased travel I may have hit second at about 60, but only for a moment, when I lost all gears through the gearshift. Nothing, felt like wood. While still rolling, I let the clutch up in desperation to see what happened (in order to get home) and I got 5 gears back 1,3,4,5 and R.. No second. It will not go into the second gear gate period. All the other gears are fine, with no expensive noises(yet). Drove the car home. I think with the freshly decreased travel I may have instinctively went too far. I am thinking the linkage is hung inside the tranny, or second is gone. Am going to check the new coupling alignment, and then see what's in my new (~1000 miles)redline oil. Any hope in an in car repair, or does it have to come out. I'll be doing it. Any recommendations?
