1984 Cabriolet Top won't latch after new weatherstrip

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrerra Cabriolet; Year: 1984; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 145000;

84 Cab has a three year old new top, in fine working condition, but car needed new weatherstripping all around top/windows - it was always tough to latch, but very doable - we bought new Porsche seals, removed old, totally removed all old glue etc, installed new seals to what looks like perfect fit, seemingly identical to how original seals appeared...and now, convertible top simply will not latch...take the top seal (long single piece goes across top windshield and down window front sides)out all together, top latches like butter, but obviously no seal for water proofing...old seal was of course somewhat ''compressed'' but not more than 1/8" inch...should we be somehow ''trimming'' the new seal with a razor to facilitate fit? sorry for dumb question, but this one is driving us nuts...
