1984 Carrera stuck in gear?

Transmission and Clutch

Vehicle Information: Model: Carrera Targa; Year: 1984; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 Flat 6; Total Mileage: 41,000;

84' Carrera managed to somehow get stuck into 3rd gear. I initially drove 5 minutes, parked and returned only being able to start off in 2nd gear. After repeated attempts to shift into first, I now found myself stuck in 3rd gear? I recall leaving transmission in 2nd gear w/park brake set on flat surface. Once home and engine off, and with minor convicing, car shifted back into 1st gear and worked again. Any ideas as to what could cause that...worn syncros, shift linkage adjustment? Car has only 41,000 miles and has been well taken care-of. I should also note that I recently had the clutch spring helper replaced after it broke. Since then the car has been bucking and shaking badly under ANY throttle during take-off, as if the clutch is not engaging properly. I've been idling into gear which seems to keep it from happening. Perhaps the clutch cable needs adjusting? It is a targa so body flex may be an issue I'm guessing. I also wonder if it could be worn engine or transmission mounts. Either way I'm prepared to take it into my mechanic after this incident. Just curious if you had any ideas if the latter problem has now caused the gears to get stuck? Thanks in advance!
