1986 911 Carrera Chips

Vehicle Information: Model: Carrera; Year: 1986; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 pre-74 SSI headers, Dansk sport mufler 2 exhaust, K&N cone air cleaner; Total Mileage: 160,000 with 60K on complete drivetrain rebuild;

With a stock motor I added a performance chip designed for stock configuration and saw some mild improvements. With the addition of the SSI headers and twin exhaust pipes the car seems to run a little rich and performance seems to have decreased. I spoke with another chip manufacturer and was told the addition of the new exhaust system changed the air/fuel mixture and I should replace the current performance chip with one designed to incorporate the exhaust. Can a performance chip designed for a stock configuration be that different that one designed with a freer flowing exhaust?
