1986 Turbo - loss of compression

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944): 951; Year: 1986; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.5 Turbo; Total Mileage: 86,000;

I wrote back on 9-22-03 (1986 Turbo - loss of power)and now have a little more detail, as the motor has been disassembled. First, an exhaust valve (# 2 cylinder) was cracked (1/4 inch piece missing). Everything else looked good. The mechanic indicated that the likely cause was the injector malfunctioning. The condition of the spark plugs (which are relatively new) seemed to be consistent with his conclusion. I am planning to replace all of the injectors, given the age of the car. My question is, are there any other possible causes of the broken valve? Also, I will be completing the rest of the work you suggested, with the possible exception of the valve guides & seals. The head was just delivered to a machine shop, which will test the wear on these two items. Given the additional cost, the mechanic was not pushing to replace them unless tolerances were outside of acceptable specs. Depending on the cost, I am inclinded to go ahead since the head is already off. Your thoughts? Finally, is there anything else I need to be wary of at this point?
