1987 911 Carrera Engine vibration / roughness

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrera Targa; Year: 1987; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 L Boxer 6; Total Mileage: 66,800;

I have noticed recently, only during deceleration with no throttle, a harshness (engine?) in the 3400 - 3200 engine rpm range transition. It occurs in all gears, but the duration time of the harshness of course is longer in the taller gears. The engine is smooth & strong from idle to redline on acceleration (under load; does not smoke or consume unusual amount of oil. The engine "roughness" is rather difficult to describe..nothing is felt in the steering wheel or seat of pants, but definitely a unique noise, always at this same engine rpm range (3400 - 3200). The car has been well maintained with frequent oil changes. Your advice is appreciated.
