1987 924S Sunroof doesn't open

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 924S; Year: 1987; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 42,500;

The sunroof on my 1987 924S no longer opens. It started intermittently, but by pressing the open switch numerous times, I could usually get it to work. It always closed with no problem. Last summer, it stopped opening at all. However, I can still retract the supports all the way to allow removal of the sunroof. The supports won't extend to the locked position. Basically, any operation using the "close" side of the sunroof operating switch, such as closing the sunroof or retracting the suports, works. Any operation using the "open" side of the switch doesn't work. However, the switch in the console was checked for continuity, and appears to be working properly.I've checked the three micro-switches at the motor, and they appear to be correctly aligned, and tight. I've also checked the continuity of all three, and it also is good. I've been unable to figure out how to remove the cover of the switch in the roof between the visors (which the metal tongue activates), and haven't checked it out other than to depress the switch by hand with no change in symptoms. By reversing the polarity of the electrical connection at the motor, I can get the roof to open by pressing "close" and also get the supports to engage and lock the sunroof in place.Could it be the micro-switch in the roof, or the two relays at the motor? Or something else? What do I check next? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
