1987 944 sunroof

My sunroof has worked flawlessy. I went to take it out the other day and when I went to do it in the usual fashion it failed to retract the levers in the roof. When the key is in position 1 the levers are supposed to retract. They started then stopped. If I move the key forward to position 2 right after they stop, the levers will continue into the stored position.
