1987 944 Turbo Factory boost guage readings

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 951; Year: 1987; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 21,100;

The graduations on my stock boost guage go from a *tiny* dot on the left side to 2.0 all the way to the right. Under full boost the car reads 1.8, as best I can tell. At warm idle the needle rests either directly on the first *line* graduation, sometimes a bit above. I've gotten conflicting opinions/advice on whether I have a vacuum leak or not and I've never really paid attention to where the guage has been in past 951's I've owned. I know that at idle there should be vacuum, but is that at the lower left "dot" or where? How serious is a reading at the first line if car reaches full boost? My mechanic has said that he has noticed fluctuations in the vacuum reading and tells me not to worry about it if the car is boosting fine.
