1987 944 Turbo Fuel line replacement

Fuel System

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 944 Turbo; Year: 1987; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 68000;

After seeing a fuel leak in the high pressure hose to the damper, I ordered a replacement from the dealer. It arrived with the rubber hose crimped to the steel line as original on the car, and the steel line (about a meter long) beautifully bent to all the necessary twists and turns. The new hard line ends in a fitting. However, under the car the original hard line goes all the way back to the fuel filter. My question: What is the best practice for connecting the new line into the existing hard line? I was pretty comfortable doing work with fittings, but I'm less sure about cutting and flaring the existing line.
