1987 944 Turbo Upfixin' or nix ...

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 951; Year: 1987; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 126,000;

I was wondering about fixing up (restoring?) my salvage title '87 951. The engine runs pretty good, actually. The interior is nice as well. It will need roughly $5,000 to bring it back to near perfect condition. Though $10K+ could be easily spent! My question is this: If, after all of this fixing has been done, someone crashes into me, would the typical insurance company only pay me what it was worth at time of purchase? ($6000) Or, would the car be worth more, having had a documented $10K put in to it. Granted, I know that the value won't go up by that much, or even match a clean-title car. But, I would think it would add value to the car, wouldn't it? Or, is my hunch correct that the perfect solution for this car is to turn it into a weekend, track-only racer?
