1988 911 Carrera Automatic Heating System

Heating and Ventilation

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1988; Body Type: Convertible; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 carrera; Total Mileage: 95000;

I have the automatic heater control system in this car (no manual 'red'handles) with the 9 position switch/defrost between the seats. With thedial in the 'off' position you can hear it repeatedly trying to functionas if it is trying to close or open the valves and the valve is stuck soit keeps trying and trying. This terrible binding noise coming from thebox between the seats is obviously not a good thing. Since it is winter,it's not problem, I just turn the dial to above what the thermostat isreading so as to keep the system on. The binding stops when I do this. In addition, the passenger side heat is always on and the drivers sidewill not come on. I safely assume that the pass side valve is stuck openand the drivers side closed. Is there a recommended way to calibrate thevalve actuation? There seems to be a fan under the dash around the glovebox area with a bad bearing (it's squealing when cold) how do I accessthis fan to either lubricate the bearing or replace the fan?
