1988 911 Carrera Front End Humming Noise

Suspension and Steering

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrera; Year: 1988; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 72,000;

I've had my 1988 Carrera for several years now and it's performedflawlessly up until now. This last weekend I was driving on some of thelocal winding roads when I noticed that on the longer left hand turns anoise came from the front of the car that sounded like somebody saying"whooooo" and I felt like I noticed a slight buzzing in the steeringwheel that accompanied the sound. Later when I had a chance I got out ofthe car and grabbed both front wheels and noticed that the drivers sidewheel had a noticeable play from top to bottom that the passenger sidewheel didn't have. At that point I assumed that I had a loose wheelbearing.This problem has progressed to the point that it occurs when driving in astraight line as well. I've also uncovered another clue. If I tap thebrakes even just ever so slightly, the noise disappears for a short timeonly to return later. Later that week I tried to adjust the wheel bearingthinking it was loose, but even after adjusting it, it still hasnoticeable play top to bottom and also still makes that noise. The car ison stock 205/60 16 tires up front. It's probably been lowered half aninch up front. I did notice a good amount of tire wear on the inner mosttread blocks of the tire (probably from the lowering). Otherwise the caris stock. Any ideas what this could be?
