1988 911 Carrera Front Trunk Corrosion Under Battery Tray

Suspension and Steering

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1988; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 77000;

Front suspension pan has an area of soft rusted metal, about 1.5"x 2.5",under battery tray and just to the right of the control arm frontmounting bracket. I have treated it with rust neutralizer. Does thestructural integrity of the front suspension depend on the strength orrigidity of the front suspension pan in that area? Could the front ofthe control arm separate from the pan under stress, if the pan isweakened by rust? Is this situation a safety hazard?
