1988 911 Carrera Gas Smell With Heater Use.

Heating and Ventilation

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrera; Year: 1988; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 L; Total Mileage: 75,000;

I started noticing a gasoline odor recently when using the heater in mycar. The heater is the automatic type and the smell seems to happenfairly consistently right after I turn the heater on. When I bought thecar 3 years and 15,000 miles ago it didn't have the problem. The smell isdefinitely gasoline and not exhaust. When I use the AC or fresh air Idon't encounter any smell. It also seems that maybe after a while ofusing the heater (although obviously not something I do often) the smelldissipates and goes away only to maybe to come back later. Could there araw fuel leak near a heater duct that I'm not aware of? I haven't noticedany drastic change in fuel levels, but I don't monitor it enough to trulyknow.
