After looking at the oil level gage sitting on zero for so long, Ifinally decided to replace the tank sender unit. Not a very costly item, and installation was pretty straight forward. I find that the gage isreally very accurate relative to the dip stick. This is a very simplesender, much like the ones used for fuel. A slider arm on a variableresistor. The failure mode is always going to be on the oil low side, sothere is no reason not to give it some trust. The only time you shouldworry about what the gage reads is if it does not move. The variableresistor on my old unit was totally shot. Guess that comes from slidingup and down for 14 years.
