1988 924S Cylinder honing and piston rings

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model(924/944/968): 924S; Year: 1988; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 108,000;

Eventually I'm going to want to rebuild the engine of my '88 924S. It runs great, but eventually I know that time will come.I've been reading on a couple Porsche forums that you are not supposed to hone the cylinder walls because of the Alusil coating. This I can understand. I've also read that you are not suposed to re-ring the piston, but can't remember where I saw it (maybe on a BMW forum while researching Alusil) This, I can't understand.The most recent cylinder honing thread can be found here, if you're interested: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=256133&perpage..., what's the scoop? If a cylinder is scored, can it be honed and re-treated with Alusil, or is it trash? Can the pistons be re-ringed safely?Someone should write a thorough book called "Rebuilding your 944 engine for Dummies" (hint hint)
